Gmail has introduced a new feature while signing up for your new gmail account to prevent spam and for greater security.Once you fill up the form and click on create my account it will take you to a new page for verifying your account where it will ask you to type in your mobile number after selecting the country once you put in the details and click on the button below you will get a code that you need to put in the account creation process.
There are two methods via which you can get your code
1) Either you can opt to get the code as a text message or
2) You can opt for an automated voice call to your phone with a verification code
Once you successfully verify your account then it will take you to your inbox
This new security feature will help in following ways:
1) It will help in preventing the spam to the server that only real people are making accounts and not any bots
2) It will help in recovering your lost password in case you forget it
3) It will be helpful as gmail gonna notify you of important changes to your account like changing password from a new location,or signing in from a suspected location etc
