Secure Your Facebook Account By Activating Login Approvals Feature

StumbleUpon

Facebook & Google both are the top competitors and they both are doing everything to enhance their services and products. As the user base increases both the companies also taking care of as much security they can provide to protect users account from unauthorized access.Few days back Google launched the 2-step verification and now Facebook has introduced login approvals to enhance the security of your Facebook account.

Now what is Facebook login approvals?

Login approvals is a new security feature a two factor authentication which is an optional feature but a must to activate if you are concern about your account security.Once you activate this security feature in your account it requires you to enter a code that FB sends to your phone when you log in from an unrecognized computer.Once you are logged in to the new device you can set up that device as the authorized device for future use.

We also shared with you how to enable https in your account for better security here now lets go ahead and turn on login approvals for your Facebook account:

1 ) Login to your account and on the top right click on Account and then on Settings

2 ) Scroll down the page and click on change on the right side of the Account Security option

3 ) Now tick the box under Login Approvals as shown below

4 ) Once you do that you will see a new pop up window telling you what is login approvals, simply click next as shown below

5 ) Now you need to add a phone to your facebook profile as shown in the image below and click continue or if you have already added one it will send you a code to your added number

6 ) Type in the code on the screen that you got in your SMS and click continue

7 ) Now you will see a message that login approvals has been set and the box is checked now, just click the save button below it

8 ) Once you save the changes, you will see another option under login notifications that send me a text message whenever unrecognized device tries to access the account as shown below check that box and save it so that if someone tries to login to your account from another device you will get a sms notification and can take the required action like changing your password

Now you have successfully activated the two factor authentication for your account and incase anyone knows your password and tries to access your account from an unauthorized device a screen will appear like below to type in the code that will be send to your added mobile

Once you punch in the code and submit, you have the option to add the new device to the list of your recognized device as shown in the image below

Once you continue from next time onwards it will not show you the code gateway for the added device. As you login from the new device instantly an email will be there in your inbox with the details of the device and if the login is not by you a link would be there to protect your account.

Unlike Google we dont have backup codes here in the printed format and Facebook says that if we lose our phone after activating login approvals we can access our account from a saved device but they dont save the devices according to the MAC address it is simply the cookies so what if you lost your mobile and urgently have to reinstall your OS?I know its a rare case but as we have so many users it can happen with anyone.Do you have any idea or suggestion how to overcome this problem? Are you also waiting for this kind of two step security in twitter or any other site like me?Let us know your views about it using the comment system below
